Martian Tripod WIP #1 viewed approx 728 times
A shot of the tripod under construction, showing the various materials.
Clear: A clear plastic disc, made of two halves that can be slipped together. I only fixed them after painting, when I had attached the arms and heatray. The dark rings mark the spots where I used a hot awl to make openings for the viewports, getting a raised rim in the process.
White: Either cardboard, paper or plastic rod used for the rivets.
Light brown: Wooden craft bits, mainly a largish egg for the hip, and various balls and half-spheres for the legs. The main leg struts are shashlik sticks, about 20cm in length.
Black: Elastic yarn wrapped around toothpicks to resemble heavy-duty springs.
Translucent green: A plexi-glass finger ring obtained from my FLCS for 2?, the single most expensive element of the tripod. All in all, the materials came to about 5?.
