January Project Update | 2005-01-25 22:34:04

The dwarves are cleaned and primed. I will begin the drybrushing soon. Very, very soon. Oh! Pictures. I wanted to take before priming pictures, but the batteries in the digital camera were dead. So...

Primed Pictures will be taken and uploaded as soon as we can find that goddamned cable that plugs into the computer.

One last thing, the unit will be 18 models as I simply didn't have 20 of them. Oh well.

January Project - Dwarf Warrior Unit | 2005-01-24 11:23:45

Consisting mostly of the old Regiment of Reknown unit - Prince Ulthgar's Imperial Dwarves - this will be a unit of 20 dwarves including champion, standard bearer, and musician.

I spent all day yesterday trying to strip the models. I bought a gallon of Simple Green on Saturday and soaked the dwarves in an undiluted solution of it overnight. I then scrubbed lightly with a toothbrush and I have to say that Simple Green works better than Pine-Sol ever did.

On the other hand, it still doesn't get all paint out of the nooks and crannies with an overnight soak. With February's project, I'll try soaking for a full 24 hours and see if it works on the details.

Regardless, at this point the models await cleaning of the last of the old paint, then cleaning the models themselves of flash and seams. See, cause, back in the day, I didn't even do that.

That's tonights work.

Tomorrow is priming.

I plan on doing all the units, including their champions in a technique called underpainting. You can find a detailed description of the technique, as it applies to miniatures, here.

Wednesday I'll take off.

Thursday I'll likely take off.

So that leaves Friday for drybrushing the models.

Saturday I'm taking a day trip up to a friend's place and will get as much of the unit done there while helping him paint as well. Sunday I have to work!

And then we'll see what else needs to be done by Monday night in order to finish the unit in time for my end of month Deadline.

The Project - Dwarf Army | 2005-01-24 11:01:16

Taking a queue from lots of painters out there, I'm finally going to actually get into the practice of painting regularly. I'm also going to try and finish the project I started way back when I first started painting. The very first batch of minis I bought was the old Game Workshop Warhammer Fantasy Warriors Box Set of plastics.

Each sprue had an orc, a goblin archer, a dwarf, an elf archer, a dark elf, and another I can't think of.

I fell in love with the dwarfs and ended up tearing them off the sprues and painting them up in old testor's. They have since been stripped and painted at least once more. But over the years I just accumulated Dwarfs. I played them in WHFB 5th Ed. But haven't played the game since.

At this point, I'm going to paint up an army that I want rather than a legal army according to the newest set of WHFB rules.

So as I begin, let me thank BuddyLee for the opportunity to use this space. And also let me thanks my beloved for having the patience with my fatass for fiddling with my little toy soldiers on a regular basis. She's the bestest.
