Added lots more images to the Sculpts gallery - mainly of some 25mm/28mm foals I've just sculpted. The completed leopard is also there, and a semi-naked man (with tastefully placed towel). I think I need more practice at leopards...

And for anyone interested in how Breyer's Mini Whinnies (plastic horses) compare in size to wargaming steeds, there is a size comparison in the Animals Horses gallery.  One of the horses is a Gamezone one (gobsmackingly lovely sculpt!!!) which are allegedly 28mm, but both rider and horse seem more like 32mm to me.

I've done some sculpts of llamas (specifically giant llamas, big enough to use as a cavalry mount) to see if they are any use to a friend for his Runequest RPGs.  I think they came out reasonanly okay, but I need to practice a lot more to completely get the hang of green stuff.

Hair seems to be a sticking point at the moment - all the humans I've done so far seem to be having bad hair days!  As does the tail of the horse I am in the middle of doing at the moment.

I've bought some 54mm Historex plastic horses, to see how much I like painting 54mm minis by starting out with a favourite painting subject.  (Yes I really do like painting horses).  Actually it is a double test, as I've also been reading about pastel techniques on model horse websites, so I bought some artists pastels (those little crumbly sticks) and after a couple of attempts on 28mm figures (a horse and a camel - see the galleries) I decided that I'd be better off trying to use them on something more comparable to the size of the models that the model horse people collect.

54mm is quite small in model horse circles... but it is bloody huge when you are used to 25mm and 28mm minis.  It is kind of daunting to see these Godzilla scale horses looming over everything else in the painting queue!  I intend to do a couple in acryllics as per normal and then a couple in pastels, to see how the techniques and results compare.  Results announced here as I get them done.

Not had much painting time recently, because of various work and Real Life related things.  However, that hasn't stopped me BUYING more miniatures!  Online shopping is marvellous, but you can order stuff in seconds, whereas painting it takes hours...

However, the last batch of minis I ordered were (mostly) for painting up as Christmas presents.  Maybe their arrival will inspire me to get more done when they get prepped, based, undercoated and stand looking plaintive in the painting queue. 

Two of our local pubs (the Queen Vic and the Waggon & Horses) have taken to getting DJs in and thus playing loud music until 1 or 2 in the morning on Friday and Saturday nights.  It's a fairly recent innovation for the Waggon & Horses, but the Queen Vic has been doing it since Easter! 

The result is that I spend most weekend feeling washed out and knackered and not really feeling much like doing anything that requires close concentration, like painting or mucking about with lighting for photography.  However, I managed to scrape together the enthusiasm for a mass undercoating session last weekend, and finished off a couple of things and based them this weekend.  So there are several new images in the Fantasy, Aegyptus and Reaper galleries. 

I've also put a few more sculpts in the, um, Sculpting gallery.  Most of these are work in progress.
